 Pocket Park in Lancashire 2022

Leading on from the project along the Mon and Brec canal in 2021, we have been invited to assist artist Rebecca Chesney in the creation of another wildflower area on her local patch in Lancashire. We’ll keep you posted on progress. In the meantime, take a look at Rebeccas project: Rebecca Chesney Linear Park Residency | Super Slow Way

My Local Patch 2021

In 2021 we were awarded funding from Heritage Lottery Fund 15 Minute Heritage grant programme to develop free resources that you can download and use to discover and explore your local patch, focusing on the nature that is on your doorstep.

Tuning In

Spending time in nature can be healing and can help us feel relaxed, centred and balanced. With life becoming more fast paced, it’s easy to close off our senses to the natural world and stop noticing its beauty. The smell of flowers, the buzzing of bees, the trickling of water, the feeling of grass on our feet, the fleeting touch of a snowflake, all of these things can help us bond with our environment and support health and wellbeing.

Tuning in can help us connect, notice our surroundings and take a moment out of our busy lives to learn to relax in nature. This is your invitation to discover nature, take in your surroundings and block out your minds busy chatter

Getting to know spring wildflowers

Want to learn more about the wildflowers you can find locally in spring? Download this leaflet and take it out on your next walk.

Getting to know trees in winter

Ever wanted to learn more about the trees in your local patch? We’ve produced a guide to 13 different types of tree that you might find around the south Wales Valleys and how to identify them in winter. You can download the whole guide or information about individual trees. We also run a ‘Getting to know trees in winter’ workshop (currently online) - check out the calendar at the top of this page to see when the next workshop is.

Pont-y-ddol project 2021

During April 2021 we worked with Peak Cymru and the Canal and Rivers Trust to create bands of wildflower planting along a stretch of the Monmouthsire and Brecon Canal near Pontypool. Artist Rebecca Chesney designed the scheme as a work of art in the landscape that highlights the beauty of our native wildflowers. We’re hoping to continue working on this project to involve people to monitor the progress of the plants and the wildlife that is attracted to them. Let us know if you’d like to be involved.
